JA2012 Ladders 2 will organize its kick-off meeting on 16 May 2013 in Brussels. The meeting day is divided into 2 parts. The first part is an open meeting to which participants from the member states are joined by stakeholders to share together the objectives of the Activity. The stakeholders then have an opportunity to respond to those. The second part of the day is a private meeting for the MS participants, the EC representative and the Prosafe management team.

Joint Action Lighters II held its final conference on 8th November 2012 in Brussels at PROSAFE premises. The conference is structured in 3 parts: firstly, a presentation of the Joint Action and its results; secondly a discussion concerning the “lighters" situation after the end of the Joint Action and, thirdly, a “training session” where we can inform the industry about how market surveillance works. JA China 2011 organized a meeting on 18th October 2012 in Brussels at PROSAFE's premises. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the latest progress in the outreach to AQSIQ China and the overview of the Europe-China initiatives and to prepare the study visit to China.
Globalisation and the increasingly interdependent markets stress the need for enhanced market surveillance activities and cooperation between the Member States to achieve a superior level of product safety. PROSAFE has played an important role in achieving this by providing an excellent platform for sharing and further developing market surveillance best practices.
This year, the European Commission is hosting the International Product Safety Week in Brussels from 15 to 19 October 2012. PROSAFE kicked off the IPSW 2012 organizing the seminar "Joint Actions & Best Practice" in Charlemagne Building. The presentations and the programme can be downloaded from here.

JA2010 Visibility Clothing and Accessories held its third project meeting in Lisbon, Portugal from 4th to 5th June 2012. On the first day, the Action discussed the selection of the laboratory, choice and number of products for testing, sampling methods and will hold a debate on non-conforming products. On the second day, the participants carried out risk assessment of the sample products that they brough along with them and discuss in house the testing which each Member State will have to carry out [this is apart from the testing to be done by the appointed testing laboratory], and any other issues.

The kick-off meeting for the Fireworks Working Group was held in Brussels on the 25th May 2012 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kindly note that only one participant from each Member State participating directly in the Fireworks Working Group will be able to be reimbursed by PROSAFE. There are 12 participating organisations within this activity from the following countries: Belgium (holding the Project Leadership), Bulgaria, Denmark, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Iceland as associated member.
At the first part of the meeting (in the morning), representatives from the participating Member States and a wide range of stakeholders attended. They had the opportunity to make an input to the project. The second part of the meeting (in the afternoon) was dedicated solely to representatives from the participating Member States.
Funding for the project is sufficient to allow for PROSAFE to pay the travel and subsistence expenses of only one representative to the meeting from each participating Member State. Funding will be in accordance with the current PROSAFE rules on this issue.

PROSAFE has officially launched the JA2011 in a two-days event from 23 to 24 February 2012. On the first day, the participating Member States and the stakeholders have gathered to discuss the parts of the action that they are particularly interested in with the activity leaders and/or consultants. Please note that PROSAFE will reimburse travel costs for one representative from each Member State. If more representatives from the same Member State participate in the Joint Action (whether from the same authority or different authorities), then they are kindly asked to advice PROSAFE whom to reimburse. EMARS II project is entering its closing stage. A two-days Final Conference was organized from 7th to 8th December 2011 in Brussels. The first day (09.30 - 17.00) was dedicated to a closed session for the market surveilance authorities from the Member States. The last Risk Assessment Forum was held within the framework of the EMARS II project on 6th December 2011, in Brussels. The seminar focused on risks from physical hazards in products (e.g. mechanical and electrical). Questions that were addressed at the seminar included: (1) what are advantages and disadvantages of performing a full risk assessment for a RAPEX notification?; (2) what is currently the best practice in determining the probability of injury events?; (3) how can we develop the risk assessment practice further and make the results as robust and objective as possible? The Joint Action on Sunbeds II held its final workshop on 2nd November 2011 in Brussels at PROSAFE premises. The main aim of the meeting was to discuss a draft of the final Market Surveillance Report, and, therefore, allowing some time to take in comments from the meeting before issuing the finalized report and the financial report. The JA2010 Ladders held its third project meeting from the 13th and 14th October in Prague. The participants assessed the results of the review of the stuation concerning ladders in the markets of all five States participating in the project. Revised test labs for ladders and fixed ladders which are to be tested will be given. The group also decided on how many samples to take from each individual State, and the schedule for sending the samples to the selected testing laboratory was agreed.

JA2010 Food Imitation Products (FIP) held a project meeting in Brussels on 12th and 13th July 2011. The draft Check List will be discussed and finalised with this occassion. As agreed at the previous kick-off meeting, members will try, whether possible, to bring with them some representative samples of two types of FIPs (cosmetic and decorative), in order to support a better definition of the instructions for inspectors and of the checklist. PROSAFE organized a Strategy Workshop on 15 June 2011 in the framework of the EMARS II project. The Workshop provided an important platform for PROSAFE and all interested parties to express their views of the direction the strategy should take to meet the challenges of the future.
A strategy for the further enhancement of market surveillance in Europe is a deliverable of the EMARS II project. The market surveillance landscape has evolved tremendously in the past few years with the implementation of new legislation, the launching of many international initiatives and the tremendous growth in the Joint Actions co-ordinated by PROSAFE. Many challenges remain but we are presented with a unique opportunity for real and lasting change with an unparalleled interest from the European Parliament and stakeholders and a strong commitment on the part of the European public authorities.

EMARS II organised a Task D Meeting on 28th April 2011 in Brussels. The main achieved purpose was the discussion with the stakeholders on the revised version of the Draft Corrective Actions Guide, including comments and examples of good or bad recall actions.
The Joint Actions 2010 held the kick-off meeting for the Laser Pointers task on 28th April 2011 in Brussels. The task leader is Mrs. Marina Dias, Food and Economic Safety Authority - Portugal, and Mr. Berend Kamerling, PROSAFE Consultant, is the task coordinator. Ten EU Member states are involved in this task and Switzerland participates as an observer country.
The Joint Actions GPSD 2010 held the kick-off meeting for the Food Imitation Products task on 27th April 2011 in Brussels. The management team is represented by the task leader, Mr. Durk Schakel, New Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority - The Netherlands, and the task coordinator, Mr. Fabio Gargantini, PROSAFE Consultant. Eleven EU Member States together with Norway are involved in this task and Turkey participates as an observer state.
The Joint Action on Toys held its final workshop on 6th April in Brussels. The meeting fulfilled the following proposed objectives: to discuss and confirm three guidance documents, to discuss the information from the XRF questionnaire, to deal with matters related to the final report for this Joint Action and to conclude any possible pending administrative matters.
JA on Sunbeds II organised a progress meeting on the 29th March 2011 in Brussels.The participants tackled the issue of the involvement of Industry in the action and discussed a proposal for the design of a consumer information campaign employing the new media.
The Joint Action on Lighters II held a project meeting on 10th March 2011 in Brussels. The following day, a successful cooperation meeting was launched between European market surveillance authorities and Customs authorities. The officials met to discuss statisctics on dangerous and non-complaint lighters, risk profiles, sampling criteria and check lists, practical obstacles in picking unsafe lighters and solutions to overcome the conveyed drawbacks. A demonstration of on-site testing also took place. An especially organized tour de table created the opportunity for the market surveillance and customs officers to exchange experiences, best practices, practical solutions and tips and tricks.
The Joint Actions GPSD 2010 was officially launched on 9th March in Brussels. Twenty-one EU Member States together with Norway are involved in the project and Turkey participates as an observer member state. The Annual International Risk Assessment Seminar took place on 3rd of December 2010in Brussels, closing the International Product Safety Week. Developping common views on risks is vital to ensure an effective market surveillance and a free movement of safe goods. Thus, PROSAFE organizes under the EMARS II project, a yearly seminar to discuss developments in the area of risk assessment for consumer products. The event included a panel session with representatives from product safety authorities in different jurisdictions and from international business. Moreover, a 'risk assessment market' was held in the afternoon. Participants were able to move between different 'stations', where specific product safety cases were presented.It also represents the programme for the third day of the International Product Safety Week.
